Wellington sits north of Fort Collins on I-25, with an original town center along Cleveland Avenue and newer neighborhoods spreading out around it. That mix means two very different kinds of sewer trouble in one small town. We inspect, repair and replace sewer and water service lines throughout Wellington and the unincorporated area around it.

Wellington homes, by the numbers

About 12,169 people live in Wellington (U.S. Census Bureau, Vintage 2025 estimate), roughly 10% more than in 2020. Half of the town’s homes were built in 2010 or later, and the median home dates from 2010. About 7% were built before 1980 and 3% before 1960 (ACS 2024 5-year estimates).

Two kinds of sewer problems

The older homes near Cleveland Avenue. Much of Wellington’s older housing is in and around the original town center. Lines here may be clay or cast iron, and trees planted decades ago have had plenty of time to find the joints. Root intrusion and corroded or cracked pipe are the common findings, and lining is often the least disruptive fix for a line that still holds its shape.

The newer subdivisions. With half the town’s homes built in 2010 or later, most lines are PVC. Problems come from the ground and from later work: settled trenches, sags, separated joints, and lines hit by fence posts or sprinkler installs. These are usually fixed with one targeted excavation once the camera has found the spot.

Town of Wellington rules

The Town of Wellington’s standard design criteria and construction requirements assign the sewer main to the town and the service line, from the main to the building, to the property owner. That document is about 11 years old, so before any repair we confirm the current rules with Wellington Public Works. The town’s FAQ lists (970) 821-5078 for guidance on projects.

Winter, soil and depth

Wellington shares Northern Colorado’s two big enemies of buried pipe. Larimer County requires foundations to be protected at least 30 inches below grade, and service lines laid too shallow can suffer in a hard freeze. Expansive clay, which the Colorado Geological Survey calls the state’s most significant geologic hazard, swells and shrinks with moisture and can pull joints apart or bend a line out of grade. Both show up on camera as offset joints, cracks or low spots.

What a Wellington job looks like

Every job starts with a camera run from a cleanout or a pulled toilet, so you see the problem before you see a price. You get a written quote with each option that will work on your line, and we handle the 811 locate request, any permits and the inspection. After the repair, a final camera run shows the finished line. How camera inspections work.

Buying a home in Wellington

Whether the house is a 1970s home near Cleveland Avenue or a five-year-old build in a newer subdivision, a standard home inspection does not look inside the sewer line. Book a sewer scope during your inspection period. On an older home, it tells you whether the original pipe has years left. On a newer one, it catches the sags and separated joints that do not show from the yard, while there may still be builder’s warranty left to claim against.

Wellington FAQ

Who maintains the sewer line in Wellington?

The town’s construction standards put the main on the town and the service line from the main to the building on the owner. Because that document is about 11 years old, we confirm the current rule with Public Works before quoting.

What should I do if my sewer backs up in Wellington?

Stop running water, keep people and pets away, and call the Town of Wellington so it can check its main. If the main is clear, the blockage is in your line, and we can clear it and find the cause with a camera.

Do you work outside Wellington’s town limits?

Yes. We take calls from the unincorporated areas around Wellington and between the towns of northern Larimer County.
